Digital Arts - 'Masterclass'

Feels crazy to say it but it's almost November! But it's not all bad as in this months Digital Arts magazine I was commissioned to produce a 'Masterclass' (their words not mine...) tutorial for my illustration the Donor Trail.
Now the Donor Trail illustration has been a busy illo and was seen by the Digital Arts editor, Neil Bennett, at the AOI Images 35 exhibition.
It was a interesting job, having to really thinking about my process in creating illustrations and getting it down on paper. The way I work is by no means perfect and it's a constantly evolving thing but hopefully it'll be useful and maybe insightful to someone out there!

Digital Arts November issue
is out now in Newsagents now or you can buy it here -

Radio Times - 'After I Was Gorgeous'

The good people at the Radio Times commissioned me to create this illustration for the Radio Choice page. The programme covers the subject of fading beauty with interviews with dancers/models that rely on their bodies and how they face the prospect of times effect on their most prized asset.

AOI Images 35 - Exhibition and Book

I'm a little late in posting this but it was the Association Of Illustrators Images 35 exhibition/annual launch on the 25th of August.
My Donor Trail image for the Radio Times was selected by the panel of judges and as always it's great to be a part of such a fantastic collection of illustration. It's a real buzz for me to have my work seen aside illustrators I used to look up to when looking at the annuals way back at University!
The show was at the Bankside Gallery on London's Southbank and ran until the 5th September so I hope you got chance to have a look round.
If your interested in getting your hands on the annual check out theaoi.com for further details.

PC Pro - 'Digital Bill of Rights'

In October's issue (out now) of PC Pro is a feature on digital rights I recently illustrated. The article covers all the questions of what you can and can't do with the the digital content you have or haven't bought...
You can find the magazine in shops now or if your well modern (rather appropriately) digital format to download!

Le Tour 2011

Bit of personnel work inspired by the recent Tour de France and specifically the individual time trial - Man Vs the clock. Lonely and painfully raw cycling at it's best.

Community Care - Front Cover

Above is a lovely commission I recently completed for Community Care magazine. It was great to get another cover illustration with such a meaty subject matter - NHS reforms and the impact on social care.
The gist of the article is that the proposed coalition reforms are going to hit the learning disabled. Missing out on foster care for example and ending up in less supportive large hospitals/homes.
The illustration was also used alongside the article. (below)

TS Today - 'Environmental Hazard'

My latest illustration for TS Today magazine was a full A4. Accompanying an article looking into trading standard issues involved with products that claim 'green' credentials when maybe they're not really all they seem.

Trading Standards - 'Penny Pinching'

Just received a copy of the latest Trading Standards magazine which features my illustration on it it's cover and you'll also find the same illustration within the magazine too!
It was a great job to get and I'm really pleased with the outcome. An image of austere Britain today and impending cuts are a really juicy subject to illustrate and I had a lot of fun doing so.

Enjoy!

PC Pro - 'Security Suites'

In the latest PC Pro magazine out now you'll find my double page illustration for a review of internet security suites.
Loved creating this one as it was beautifully set up to create a really atmospheric illustration.
Hope you like it as much as me.

Radio Times - 'All Hallows'

Christmas is fast approaching and with comes the two week issue of the Radio Times which is out now.
You'll find my illustration above on the Christmas Eve radio choice page.
So if your getting fed up with all the overly festive stuff catch this ghost story by Walter de la Mare : All Hallows on Radio 7. It's read by Richard E Grant and from what I read it'll be very good!

Happy Christmas!

Lovers

Personal work time again and I've been having a little play around with this - it's been fun to do something a little more light hearted.
Thinking it may have to become a limited edition print or Valentines card but will keep you posted on that.
Anyway hope you like!

A4e Blueprint - 'Money Management'

Here's a illustration I did for the lovely people at A4e Blueprint magazine. It's all about a new service they're rolling out offering help with managing your money, in a an ever confusing financial world.
It's an A4 image over a two page spread with the foreground money and workers taken and used in a spot on another page.
Unfortunately the money I photographed was not mine...

Radio Times - 'The Storm'

In this weeks Radio Times you'll find one of my most recent illustrations for a review of Janacek's opera of forbidden love.
To summarise the plot - married women falls in love with another man, can't live the guilt so confesses which results in the exile of her true love(r). Racked with guilt and loss she commits suicide in the river Volga.
A bit of a tragic tale, no? Tune in to Radio 3 on Thursday at 2.20pm if you fancy a listen.

The AOI Images 34 Annual

Fresh from the sorting office due to a stupidly small post box is my copy of the new Images 34 Annual! It's crammed full of lots and lots of beautiful contemporary illustration so if you can get a copy you won't be disappointed.
You'll find my illustration for Beers of the World on p.210 (see the photo below).

Enter via the window

I've managed to find a bit of time to play around a little on some personal work which has been fun and BOOM! here it is!
It's about internet security and the like, it's a little dark but really enjoyed having an experiment with some new textures and tones, next time though I promise to illustrate a jollier subject!
